After its sudden gain of territory, the empire stayed good trade contacts with China and India. Experts say that at one time the empire had nearly 1 million inhabitants living within its boarders. The Khmer empire ruled the majority of Indochina/Cambodia. The Khmer were very prosperous in their well-being between the years 850-1250.
